This references his involvement in the IranContra affair of the late 1980s, involving illegal weapon sales to the Khomeini regime in Iran. During the scandal, North was a National Security Council staff member. Conal is known for his striking, unflattering, and uncomfortable depictions of politicians in his artwork.
